Consumers think the nation’s housing crisis is fading from view, but more than half of them have made sacrifices during the past three years to pay their mortgages or rent, according to a survey for the MacArthur Foundation.
About 1 in 5 consumers have had to get another job or work more hours, while 17 percent stopped saving for retirement, according to the third annual survey completed for MacArthur by Hart Research Associates.
About 60 percent of consumers, versus 70 percent last year and 77 percent in 2013, said the U.S. was either “still in the middle” of the housing crisis or “the worst is yet to come.”
