ALBANY, N.H. — The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says a hiker fell 40 feet to his death while trying to climb a steep ledge near a waterfall in the White Mountain National Forest.
Rescuers recovered the body of 29-year-old Steven Marshall of Waltham, Massachusetts, on Saturday.
Conservation officers responded to the area of Champney Falls Trail off of the Kancamagus Highway in Albany at about 1 p.m. Saturday. They said Marshall was hiking with friends on the trail when the group stopped at an area known as Pitcher Falls.
Officers said Marshall and two companions decided to climb the steep ledge to the right of the falls when Marshall fell.
