A Newport man is wanted on domestic assault charges after an alleged attack on his girlfriend Sunday, one of two domestic assault incidents the town’s police dealt with that day.

In the second, a woman was hospitalized after she allegedly was attacked by her 15-year-old daughter in an argument that started about doing dishes.

Anthony Mann, 24, is wanted by Newport police after he allegedly spat in his girlfriend’s face, held her on a bed and hit her in the head, according to a news release Monday from Police Chief Leonard MacDaid.

Police got a call about that attack at 10 p.m. Sunday from someone who said they could hear a woman yelling.

Mann jumped out a side window of the house and ran into the woods before police arrived on the scene, MacDaid said.

The girlfriend told police the attack came as the couple argued about an electronic benefits card.

MacDaid said Mann is also the subject of a warrant from another agency, but didn’t give details. He asked that anyone who comes in contact with him call the department at 368-3263.

Earlier Sunday, police got a report of fight between a mother and a daughter that resulted in the mother being taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The report came in at 8 a.m. and police said the argument, which started “over doing dishes” escalated into a physical attack by the daughter, who hit her mother several times and pushed her down. The mother hit her head on a coffee table and it “split open,” according to MacDaid.

The daughter was charged with assault.
