SKOWHEGAN — Julia Steeves had five goals and one assist as the Skowhegan Area High School field hockey team opened its season with an 11-0 romp of Brewer in Skowhegan.
Cassidy Clement chipped in with three goals and an assist for the Indians (1-0), while Brooke Michonski, Abby Stevens and Haley Thebarge each scored goals as well. Brewer dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
TELSTAR 2, HALL-DALE 0: Kaylee Magee made five saves for the Bulldogs, but it wasn’t enough to fend off the Rebels, who took the win in Farmingdale.
Becca Howard had a goal and an assist to lead Telstar (1-0).
Hall-Dale falls to 0-1.
DIRIGO 1, WINTHROP 0: Sabrina Dauad scored the lone goal to give the Cougars the Mountain Valley Conference win over the Ramblers in Dixfield.
Morgan Morrow had 10 saves for Dirigo (1-0).
Corinna Coulton had 23 saves for Winthrop (0-1).
