Starks residents voted Wednesday night to raise $39,108 at a special town meeting to pay for a road repair project and improvements at the Starks Community Center.
They also authorized the Board of Selectmen to spend up to $30,000 from surplus funds to buy heating oil and diesel fuel for the coming winter, Town Clerk Jennifer Hebert said.
The meeting was “pretty straightforward and quick,” she said. All four of the items on the warrant passed. About 15 residents attended the meeting in the town of about 600.
The money to be raised includes $31,108 for a bond payment used to finance a road improvement project in 2014 on River Road. That item was left off the annual Town Meeting warrant accidentally in March.
Residents also approved raising $8,000 for repairs at the Starks Community Center and accepted a grant for $50,000 from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation to go towards the repairs.
The estimated total cost of the project, which includes roof repairs and energy-efficiency upgrades, is $103,000, with the remaining money to come from surplus and the town’s capital improvement fund.
