A Canton man was indicted Tuesday on assault charges after an incident in August in which he intentionally tried to crash the car his wife was driving and he was a passenger.
Dale Doughty, 32, was indicted on charges by the Androscoggin County grand jury Monday of domestic violence – aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Maine State Police say Doughty grabbed the steering wheel of the Jeep his wife was driving and forced the vehicle to crash into a rock wall along Route 108 near the Canton-Livermore town line on Aug. 2. Both of them were were seriously injured.
Doughty was arrested on the charge when he was released from the hospital, and is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail. His wife, who was not identified, was hospitalized and has since been released from the hospital.
