FAIRFIELD — Drivers headed north on Interstate 95 through Fairfield should expect short delays Tuesday morning as road crews fix potholes formed because of heavy rain.

In a press release Monday, the Maine Department of Transportation said that the Maine State Police will assist with rolling roadblocks between mile markers 127 and 133 northbound between 9 a.m. and noon.

The roadblocks will slow traffic for approximately 15 to 20 minutes while crews repair the potholes, the department said.

Potholes developed on the stretch of highway during heavy rain last Friday. At the time, Department of Transportation spokesman Ted Talbot said that multiple vehicles sustained tire damage because of the potholes.

On Monday, the department said that because of the continued formation of the potholes during rain, there was a “high probability” that previous cold patch repairs would not hold up.

“It is anticipated that paving the lane with hot mix asphalt will prevent continued disruption and inconvenience to travelers during the holiday season due to failing pavement,” the department said.
