FARMINGTON – Franklin County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday to discuss the proposed 2016-2017 budget for the county’s unorganized territories and townships.

The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ office at the Franklin County Courthouse.

The proposed spending plan totals $1.16 million to cover county expenditures in the townships of Madrid, Lang, Washington, Perkins, Freeman, Salem and Redington and the county’s other unorganized territories. The proposal is $18,988 less than the amount in the current budget.

Proposed expenditures include funding for snow removal, waste disposal, fire protection and NorthStar EMS ambulance services.

The commissioners are required to approve a budget by Dec. 31 and then send their proposal to the state for final approval. If approved, the budget will go into effect July 1, 2016.
