BINGHAM — The Valley boys basketball team jumped out to a 51-12 lead by halftime and never looked back en route to a 74-30 win over Forest Hills in an East/West Conference game Saturday.
Cody Laweryson finished with 33 points, 16 rebounds and five steals in the win, while Austin Cates totaled 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Collin Miller added 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Valley (13-0).
Dalton Gregoire and Aaron Moffitt each had seven points for Forest Hills (4-8).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
FOREST HILLS 32, VALLEY 23: Linda Riley scored 15 points to lift the Tigers to the East/West Conference win in Bingham.
Patricia Lessard and Kaitlin Logston added eight points apiece for Forest Hills (9-3).
Dalayne Davis scored eight point to lead Valley (6-7) while Jordan Belanger chipped in seven.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
SIU-EDWARDSVILLE 67, EASTERN KENTUCKY 65: Messalonskee graduate Nick Mayo set a new career high with 28 points but it was not enough as the Colonels came up short against Edwardsville.
Mayo finished the game 10 of 14 from the field and 1 of 1 on 3-pointers. He also had three rebounds and two blocks in 34 minutes.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UM-FARMINGTON 79, THOMAS 42: Kennadi Grover and Meghan Smith each had double-doubles as the Beavers rolled over the Terriers in Waterville.
Grover finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Farmington (7-5, 6-1 North Atlantic Conference) while Smith had 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Ashley Gagne, of Waterville, paced Thomas (2-12, 1-7 NAC) with 14 points and Jordan Agger-Barnes notched eight points and 10 rebounds.
ALBANY 64, MAINE 59: Shereesha Richards poured in a game-high 34 points as the Great Danes topped the Black Bears at SEFCU Arena in a battle of America East’s top two teams.
Sigi Koizar finished with 17 points to pace Maine (12-7, 3-1) while Mikaela Gustafsson added 16 points. Albany improved to 13-3 (4-0) with the win.
MEN’S HOCKEY
COLBY 2, WESLEYAN 2: Andy Espinoza scored for the Cardinals with under one minute remaining and the goaltender pulled as the Mules settled for a tie in Middletown, Connecticut.
Tyler Lingel and E.J. Rauseo each had goals for Colby (5-6-4, 3-5-2 New England Small College Athletic Conference).
James Kline had the other goal for Wesleyan (0-7-7, 0-2-6 NESCAC).
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
WILLIAMS 2, COLBY 1: Sara Lehman scored the game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining to give the Ephs a win at Alfond Rink in Waterville.
Abby Brustad also scored for Williams (8-5-0, 5-3-0 NESCAC) while Christina Cleroux stopped 20 shots in goal.
Katie McLaughlin scored the lone goal for Colby (5-7-3, 3-4-1 NESCAC) just 38 seconds into the contest off assists Annie Rush and Eliza Quigley.
NORTHEASTERN 8, MAINE 1: The seventh-ranked Huskies got three goals from Denisa Krizova on their way to a rout of the Black Bears in Boston.
Kendall Coyne finished with five assists in the game for Northeastern (19-4-2, 14-2-0 Women’s Hockey East), who held a 64-23 advantage in shots on goal.
Audra Richards scored the lone goal for Maine (7-15-2, 3-11-1 WHE).
SKIING
WATERVILLE — Colby placed fifth overall for the second straight day at the Bates College Carnival at Quarry Road Trails to capture the Chummy Broomhall Cup as the top Nordic ski program in Maine over Bates.
Zane Fields placed sixth in the men’s 10-kilometer freestyle with a time of 22:26.4 and Amy Bianco finished 11th in the women’s 5K freestyle in 12:44.7. Each were the top finishers on their respective teams for the Mules.
