HALLOWELL — The Old Hallowell Day Committee seeks original art to be used for the 2016 Old Hallowell Day poster, T-shirt and program cover. Art must fit the 2016 theme “Life in the Little Easy.”
The committee is looking for a piece of art that will embody Hallowell’s creative spirit.
GUIDELINES:
• An original painting or graphic art. Artists can submit up to three sketches, preliminary designs or photographs of finished work. Graphic designs will be considered, but no photography entries. Submissions must be emailed before Feb. 15, the winning art will be announced March 1. The committee requires the finished art by April 30.
• Color & design: Use color but avoid large blocks of solid color, avoid watercolors. Design should be vertical, with the finished size of 15 by 19-inch (size of poster), or proportionally larger. Text indicating “Old Hallowell Day 2016” will be added at the border. The committee will frame the painting and award it as the prize in the OHD art raffle.
• Stipend: The winning artist will receive $500, with the first payment of $200 awarded when the work is to be started, and $300 to be paid upon completion. The artist will receive an Old Hallowell Day 2016 commemorative print.
• Public relations: A write up in the OHD program will feature the art and artist. There might be an unveiling in June, during which the artist should be present and available to sign the poster. Posters and T-shirts will be available for sale to the public. Old Hallowell Day will be celebrated on July 16.
• The winning artwork becomes the property of the committee, the image and likeness to be used as described above and for any other purpose. The OHD art jury retains the right to select any design or none at all and their decision is final. When a submission is preliminarily chosen, the artist might be asked to make modifications to meet the needs of the Old Hallowell Day Committee. Submissions will be judged on its appeal to a broad target audience, and the ideal design will be suitable as wall art and for apparel.
SUBMISSIONS:
1. Email design(s) to oldhallowellday@gmail.com with a subject of “2016 Art Submission from (with last name).”
2. Attach JPG images to the email. Each artist can submit sketches for up to three ideas. Name jpg image files using the following format before attaching them: “artist’s last name_title.jpg”
3. Add the following information in the body of the email: artist’s name, artist’s mailing address, website (if available), email address and phone number.
