HALLOWELL —For the fifth year, area musicians will return for a free Irish music performance from 7 to 8:30 p.m. St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17, at the Harlow Gallery, 160 Water St. This all-ages concert is free and open to the public.

Donations will support programs at the gallery.

Local musicians Adam Soosman, William Fahy, Karen Mosher, Bryce Bragdon and others will perform traditional Irish music on Irish tin whistle, flute, bass flute, recorder, mandolin and fiddle to celebrate the holiday, the audience will be welcome to sing along.

The performance will include select pieces from other European and American cultures and traditions. This annual event has become an eagerly anticipated tradition for musicians and audience alike. Drop-in guest musicians likely.

Soosman has been performing since 1976, and in Maine since 1989. He has been teaching music in Maine since 1996. He is an instructor for the Musician’s 1st Choice School of Music & Performance in Augusta, specializing in woodwind and brass instruments and voice. Soosman can be heard on the Sam Shain and the Scolded Dogs album playing various saxophones — the album was recorded in Hallowell, at Bob Caldwell’s studio..

William Fahy is a Hall-Dale High School junior. He has been studying Irish tin whistle, flute and saxophone with Soosman for more than four years. He participates in the Hall-Dale High School concert band, jazz band, jazz choir and Taiko drumming group. Fahy will play first flute in orchestra for the All State Music Festival at the University of Maine Orono in May.
