AUGUSTA — Waterville senior Colleen O’Donnell and Messalonskee’s Kasadi McPherson qualified for the state singles Round of 48 at the Region 3 qualifying Tuesday afternoon at A-Copi Tennis and Sports Center.

O’Donnell, the second seed, had a bye into the qualifying round, where she dispatched Erskine’s Kathryn Fraser, 6-0, 6-0.

McPherson, the co-No. 8 seed, defeated Maria Beaulieu, of Skowhegan, 8-3 in the the opening round.

McPherson then rallied to edge Erica LaPlante, of Cony, in the qualifying round. McPherson won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The state singles tennis tournament begins May 30 at Colby College.

MT. BLUE 8, LAWRENCE 7, 8 innings: With two out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Caitlin Kane lined a two-run single up the middle, giving the Cougars a dramatic victory in Farmington.

Lawrence led 5-1 before Mt. Blue tied the score with four runs in the third inning. The Cougars then took a 6-5 lead in the fourth, which held up until Lawrence scored a run in the seventh. After the Bulldogs scored another run in the eighth for a 7-6 lead, Kane delivered the game-winner.

Addie Brinkman belted out three hits, while Lauren Guppy and Katlyn Wells each had two hits for Mt. Blue (5-6).

For the Bulldogs, Sydney Knowlton had three hits and scored three runs, while Abby King added two hits and two runs. Sarah Chace and Katie Lindsay chipped in with two hits apiece.

TELSTAR 2, MADISON 0: Jessica Dirago pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Rebels defeated the previously unbeaten Bulldogs in Madison.

Madison pitcher Emily McKenney also tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts, but Telstar (7-2) got both of those hits in the fourth inning. After Aislinn Forbes reached on an error and Autum Moria bunted her to second, Becca Howard delivered an RBI double, and Dirago singled Howard home.

McKenney and Aly LeBlanc each singled for Madison (10-1). The Bulldogs put two runners on in two different innings, but Dirago escaped damage with strikeouts.

RICHMOND 10, VALLEY 0: Meranda Martin threw a six-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Bobcats blanked the Cavaliers in Bingham.

Richmond (8-0) led 4-0 before scoring four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Martin and Kalah Patterson each had two singles for the Bobcats.

Hallie Miller singled twice and Teagan Laweryson struck out nine for Valley (0-5).

LINCOLN 5, ERSKINE 0: Erskine (2-9) came up short against Lincoln (10-1) in a battle of Eagles. Avery Bond had a double, while Taylor Boucher, Amber Grady and Megan Dunn each had singles to account for Erskine’s four hits.

WINSLOW 16, WATERVILLE 0: Hillary Libby and Hannah Doble combined to allow just one hit to lead the Raiders past the Purple Panthers in five innings.

Hayley Pottle led Winslow with a single, double, three runs scored and three RBIs, Paige Veilleux notched three singles and an RBI and Jenna Petrovic had a double and a triple. Maddy Clowes broke up the no-hitter with Waterville’s lone hit.

NOKOMIS 9, MT. VIEW 0: Sarah Packard and Becky Orcutt combined for a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to lead the Warriors past the Mustangs. Libby Dunivan led Nokomis (11-0) with two singles, while Packard added a double and a single. Mt. View falls to 2-9.

BASEBALL

LINCOLN 2, ERSKINE 0: Sawyer Pinkham pitched a complete game three-hitter to lead the Lincoln tot eh KVAC Class B win in Newcastle. Pinkham doubled twice and scored a run while Wally Morris had two singles and Travis Creamer drove in a run. Ryan Rodrigue pitched a complete game for Erskine in taking the loss, allowing six hits while striking out five and walking one. Lincoln is 8-3.

RICHMOND 10, VALLEY 2: Mike Stewart struck out 15 to lead the Bobcats to an East-West win over the Cavaliers in Bingham.

Matt Holt and Bailey Johansen each had doubles for Richmond (6-1). Tyler Soucy and Curtis Anderson each added two singles for the Bobcats.

Luke Malloy allowed one hit and struck out nine through six innings for Valley (3-2), but the Cavaliers — up 2-1 in the seventh inning — made five errors to give Richmond the lead and win.

The win was the 200th career victory for Richmond head coach Ryan Gardner.

MT. BLUE 7, LAWRENCE 4: The Cougars (4-7) held off a late charge to down the Bulldogs (4-6). Tye Nichols and Amos Herrin combined to drive in three of Mt. Blue’s runs, while Colton Lawrence and Anthony Franchetti each had three hits. Matt Champney and Spencer Folsom each had three single and an RBI for Lawrence.

MADISON 11, TELSTAR 1: The Bulldogs (3-8) jumped all over the Rebels (1-8) to the tune of eight runs in the bottom of the first to down Telstar in five innings.

Ryan Emery allowed just two hits and struck out five to get the win, and also helped his own cause at the plate with a two-run single. Derek LeBlanc was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored in the win, while Cody Soucier had a single, triple and an RBI.

MT. VIEW 8, NOKOMIS 7: The Mustnags scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, then survived a four-run Warrior rally inthe top of the sventh for the KVAC CLass B win in Thorndike. Kenny McGray doubled and added a two-run single inthe sixth for Mt. View (3-8) while David Clark went 2 ofr 3 with an RBI and Nathan Wren had an RBI double. For Nokomis (5-6), Ray Girroir had three hits while Noah Kershner, Andrew Dyer and Connor Allen had two apiece.
