FAIRFIELD— Results were unavailable Tuesday night in the three-way race for two open seats on the Fairfield Town Council.
Seeking re-election was incumbent Harold Murray, who was challenged by Richard Letourneau and Aaron Rowden.
Murray, 55, is a behavioral specialist at the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences and is the council’s vice chairman. He has lived in Fairfield for 24 years. If re-elected, he said, he would like to create a town department of parks and recreation. The biggest problems facing the council are finding ways to keep the budget low and developing a better relationship with the local school district in developing a school budget, he said.
Letourneau, 44, is a Dirigo Engineering employee who is contracted by Summit Natural Gas through his company to work as an inspector on the new natural gas pipeline. A graduate of Lawrence High School, he said he is concerned about keeping jobs and businesses open in Fairfield, and, if elected, he would use his experience in construction management to help in planning and budgeting.
Rowden, 27, is an attorney and the president of the town’s committee for Central Maine CATV, the local public-access television station. He said crafting a responsible budget is the biggest issue facing the town and that if elected, he would examine all expenditures with a critical eye.
