READFIELD — A Readfield man was flown to a Lewiston hospital Wednesday after crashing his motorcycle on Main Street.
Joel H. Parker, 35, was carried by a LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with injuried that were believed to be serious but not life-threatening, said Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. as Parker was driving his 2001 Honda motorcycle south on Route 17, which also is known as Main Street. Parker lost control of his motorcycle and crossed into the southbound lane. Reardon said Parker laid the motorcycle on its side and slid into the side of a northbound 2001 Ford Escort. The driver, Jeffrey Crate, 56, of Gardiner, swerved to the right to avoid the crash.
Reardon said investigators have not yet learned what caused Parker to lose control of the motorcycle. The investigation is ongoing.
Parker was wearing a helmet.
