A public presentation of Hallowell’s original Broadside of the Declaration of Independence will be presented between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday, July 4, by the Hallowell Citizens’ Committee at Hallowell City Hall. The event is free.
The program will include: introduction by Sandra Stubbs, president, HCIC; Pledge of Allegiance; singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Annie Wilson; Reading of Hallowell’s copy of the 1776 Declaration of Independence by Hallowell Mayor Mark L. Walker; singing of “God Bless America” by David Morris.
Immediately following the ceremony the public is invited to view the original document on the second floor of City Hall, please, no flash cameras or cellphone photographs.
The mission of the Hallowell Citizens’ Initiative Committee is to restore and preserve the 1899 Fire Hose Tower and the Wooden Section of the historic Hallowell Fire House and to foster appreciation of local history.
