Two boaters were safely back on solid ground Friday night after their 24-foot boat drifted close to rocks off Islesboro.
The Coast Guard was contacted late Friday afternoon by the boaters, who said the winds were pushing their disabled boat near some rocks in Gilkey Harbor. But they soon told the Coast Guard that they had managed to get their anchor to hold and they were no longer in danger of hitting the rocks.
The Coast Guard said Friday night that the boaters were also able to restart the engine on their boat. A Coast Guard vessel that was stationed in Rockland then escorted the boat as it headed back to Belfast.
