DAMARISCOTTA — Spectrum Generations, the Central Maine Area Agency on Aging, and local Aging and Disability Resource Centers are working together with the USDA’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program to improve the health of low-income elderly persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods, according to a news release from the Damariscotta agency.
Food packages include a variety of foods, such as nonfat dry and ultra-high-temperature fluid milk, juice, farina, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, canned meat, poultry, or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables.
CSFP provides individuals 60 and older with 30 pounds of commodity food items such as dry pasta, cereal, canned meats and vegetables, and cheese monthly.
Those illegible must be 60 and older; with an income under $1,276 per month for one or $1,726 for two; and would be able to pick up the food on the third Tuesday of each month at the Methodist Conference Home.
The next CSFP distribution day is Tuesday, Sept. 20.
