The central issue of Obamacare approval is the belief in the common good. If American health care delivery to all of our citizens is to succeed, this involves the belief that everyone, including those who are young and healthy, see themselves as part of caring for the common good of all.

How can supporters of the status quo health care system call it “the best in the world” when it leaves so many millions of us without coverage? To me, that is a contradiction in terms.

From a Christian perspective, I believe that any nation may be judged by how it serves all of its members, especially those who are “the last and the least” in ability to care for themselves.
