CLINTON — A fire destroyed a trailer full of hay at a farm on Gogan Road late Sunday afternoon.
Fairfield Fire Capt. Michael Murphy said the cause of the fire was unknown and that the Forest Service would be called in to investigate. He said the fire went up quickly, but firefighters were able to knock it down quickly as well.
The fire occurred shortly after 2 p.m., and Murphy said about 12 firefighters from Fairfield and Clinton responded. The fire occurred near the town line for Clinton and Benton, and since Fairfield services Benton for fires, Fairfield was called in.
Murphy said farmers were bailing hay when they noticed the burning hay in the trailer.
Murphy was not sure of the value of the trailer destroyed or how much hay had been in it, other than the fact that trailer had been full when the fire started. He said about 4,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire.
“It didn’t take long to knock down,” Murphy said.
There were no injuries from the fire and the damage was limited to the hay and trailer, which was about 10 feet tall. The farm is owned by Merton Richards, according to the Fairfield Fire Department.
