Benjamin Cummings, 35, of Jay, was seriously injured when his 1997 Plymouth van veered off Route 27, across Depot Road and through the Hammond Lumber parking lot before hitting a utility pole and a concrete barrier. Maine State Police Sgt. Aaron Hayden said the van flipped several times before coming to a rest on the railroad tracks. The vehicle was reportedly operating erratically and at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Cummings was charged with operating after suspension and driving to endanger.

July 24
A 1997 GMC 1500 being driven south on Bunker Hill Road by a 66-year-old Jefferson man went off the road to avoid hitting a trailer being towed into a driveway near a blind curve in the road.
