The 70th Harmony Free Fair will take place Saturday, Sept. 2, through Monday, Sept. 4, at the fairgrounds.

New to the fairgrounds this year is a food pavilion which was made possible by community donations. This pavilion combines the food booth and the french fry booth. A covered seating area will allow patrons to relax in the shade.

The Exhibition Hall will be open for extended hours this year allowing fairgoers more opportunities to view local arts, crafts, produce and baked goods. Hours will be 1-7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

The hall also will have a short video which showcases agricultural fairs in Maine. The video, along with the television it is shown on, were provided by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

Monday will feature the first Fiddle Contest. Fiddlers from all over Maine are invited to come showcase their talent and vie for $1,000 in cash prizes.

The Tractor Rodeo, will take place in the truck pull area. A new game is being added to the rodeo named the Slow Speed Race. In this event, the driver runs their tractor as slow as they can for a set distance. If the tractor stalls, the driver is out of the race. The driver is not able to change gears or touch the clutch pedal.

Also, a new class has been added to Monday’s Horse Show. The Stick Horse Class is open to all ages and there is no live horse required. Participants make their own stick horse and will be judged on creativity and accuracy of gaits.
