Johnston said half the herd locked themselves inside a stall as he was deploying round bales, while the other half waited patiently in the pasture for hay. "Don't call half of them stupid," Johnston said of his grass-raised beef cows.

    With its grill hanging from a tree, Litchfield firefighters assess how to remove an SUV that rolled over on Route 197 on Feb. 6 and struck a pine tree. The injuries to the driver were still being assessed, according to State Trooper Seth Allen, who believes the driver lost control after hitting a frost heave. The vehicle was pulled onto the road and turned over by wreckers.
