WATERVILLE — The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program will hold its fourth annual Golf Tournament and Silent Auction at 9 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Lakewood Golf Course, 803 Lakewood Road in Madison.

All proceeds will support the Kennebec and Somerset Explorer public bus system, which will be matched by federal funding.

Ridership has reached capacity and KVCAP must raise additional funds to meet the growing demand. In 2017, the bus system provided 103,313 Explorer rides, breaking the 100K mark for the first time. Last year’s tournament infused nearly $40,000 into the system. As a result, KVCAP was able to maintain current routes and offer new services in Vassalboro, China, Bingham and Jackman, according to a KVCAP news release.

The tournament fee is $125 per player or $500 for a foursome. The fee includes green fees, golf cart rentals, mulligans and strings, gift bags, breakfast and the awards ceremony luncheon. A hole-in-one $20,000 cash prize and other prizes will be awarded.

Also included is the Hickory Challenge Hole, players will meet a special guest dressed as Francis Ouimet, who famously won the U.S. Open in 1913, play a par 3 hole using replica hickory-shafted clubs identical to the model Ouimet used, and receive a hand-made replica of a 1913 golf ball.
