Does anyone notice that the Democrats running for governor talk about President Trump and not Maine’s issues, like high property taxes, challenged hospitals and MaineCare hurting? Talking about Trump instead of Maine issues is pathetic. Those running for governor should focus on Maine. Norman TanguayAuburn

You can go and meet ‘the real Graham Platner’ | Letter
Mainers are being subjected to commercials on broadcast TV and YouTube spuriously asking, “Who is the real Graham Platner?” and painting Platner as a hateful person. The question Mainers should be asking themselves is, “Who is the real Pine Tree Results PAC?” The answer is that Pine Tree Results PAC is a dark-money super PAC […]
Tennessee shows how us racism prevails | Letter
Recently, I have been listening to Doris Kearns Goodwin’s engaging memoir, “An Unfinished Love Story,” which chronicles her husband Dick Goodwin’s experiences as advisor and speech writer to both John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Especially dramatic was the recounting of the events of March 7, 1965, where unarmed civil rights protesters walked across […]
Maine voters should prioritize the environment | Letter
Recent federal maneuvers make this the most pressing matter.
Platner lacks the record necessary for office | Letter
I recently wrote a letter outlining my opinion that Sen. Susan Collins did not deserve reelection. Subsequently, Gov. Janet Mills has suspended her campaign. We are left with either Graham Platner or Collins to be our voice and represent Maine. What traits do we look for in our leaders? For me, a record of honesty, […]
America’s healthcare system is failing us | Letter
Republican politicians preach: “America has the best healthcare system in the world.” Here’s what it looks like in real life. My bride has an incurable cancer. Her oncologist recommended a new chemotherapy medication to control her cancer. It costs $600 per day, and the manufacturer declined to provide financial assistance because she has Medicare Part […]
Maine needs Hannah Pingree’s leadership | Letter
Maine needs leaders who can bring people together to solve problems and prepare our state for the future. That is what I appreciate about Hannah Pingree’s approach to public service. I have had the chance to work with Pingree on efforts tied to Maine’s life sciences sector and blue economy. What stands out is that […]
An unenviable new strain of unemployment is here | Letter
I’m not surprised by the pessimism in finding a job nowadays (“Older Americans say it’s a good time to find a job. Younger people disagree,” May 12). Normally, the percentage of unemployed people unemployed for less than five weeks falls five weeks after a recession. This rate then gradually rises again; better times allow for […]
Vote Jordan Wood for Congress | Letter
I am supporting Jordan Wood for Congress. He is a strong advocate for Medicare for All. My family was burdened with medical debt for 20 years following an unexpected heart attack, because our insurance was deceptively inadequate. That debt has had significant consequences for our retirement security. Once we were eligible for Medicare, our cardiac […]
InterMed decision on Martin’s Point demands an explanation | Letter
We shouldn’t take the company line about costs at face value.
