A RSU 19 school bus came to rest on top of a car in the I-95 car crash on Wednesday. Waterville firefighter Allen Nygren, who joined rescue efforts when he came across the scene, said it was “the hand of God” that prevented the sole passenger in the vehicle under the bus’ front end from being killed when his car was crushed.
Power tools were used to open up vehicles involved in the I-95 crashes Wednesday; some injured people had to wait while efforts were concentrated on people more seriously hurt.
Some of the 75 cars wrecked on I-95 in the Etna area Wednesday were so tightly pressed together that there was little room for rescue workers to reach the injurerd.
Rescue workers were forced to walk across the scene of Wednesday’s car crashes by maneuvering from the the tops of some of the 75 cars involved; there was no room to walk between vehicles.
