Retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, of the 82nd Airborne, lost portions of both arms and legs from an IED while on active duty in Afghanistan and now lives in Manchester.

Gillian Burnes hangs clothes on the line outside her Gardiner home on Tuesday, as temperatures reached into the low 80s. Conditions were ideal for using nature as a clothes dryer, according to Burnes. “There is a breeze and enough sun to dry them before dinner,” she said.
Crawling through mud, Augusta firefighters and police struggle to lift up Patricia Ross of Winslow after her vehicle slid off the road at the Marketplace at Augusta mall area during a severe thunderstorm. Augusta Police Officer Anthony Drouin said Ross’ vision became obscured by the 3:30 p.m. rainstorm and she missed a turn and drove down an embankment. Ross was grateful not to be injured. “I’ll probably be sore tomorrow,” she said.
