Fire begins to destroy a vehicle, garage and part of the home at a residence on Washington Street in Waterville on Thursday

Derek Poirier watches as firefighters put out the fire that did extensive damage to a home in Waterville on Thursday. Poirier was driving on Washington Street when he stopped and alerted occupants that the garage was on fire.

A passerby alerted two residents of this single family home at 29 Washington St. in Waterville that fire had broken out in a garage attached to the home late Thursday morning. The residents got out as the fire engulfed the garage and spread to the home.
