    CAP.cutline_standalone:The Wisdom statue, framed through fall foliage Wednesday from the east side of Augusta, is seen atop the newly refurbished State House dome. Contractors recently completed the job of replacing the old green copper coating, which had been on the dome for more than a century, with a shiny new layer.

He’s a volunteer with a group that is trying to renovate the theater, which opened in 1913 at 137 Water St. The theater is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 1 for an open house and tours.

    Roy Brackett, 82, scrapes the exterior of a shed on Tuesday at the blacksmith shop at the Vassalboro Historical Society off Route 32. Brackett and his friend Paul Duplessie, 78, stripped old paint from the structures, which were jacked up recently to strengthen the foundations. The men said volunteers are welcome to join them every Tuesday to help preserve the town’s history.
