School board ends long, emotional debate with vote to remove Native American imagery from Wells mascots

The unanimous vote leaves Skowhegan as the only high school in Maine to retain a Native American nickname or imagery.

Voters in Hallowell, Farmingdale, Monmouth, Richmond and Dresden passed the increase in a 2,631-872 vote, according to unofficial results.

The spending package for the coming year is $3,653,899, about $154,000 more than last year.

More than $560,000 in cuts were made in the spending package that is 2.56 percent higher than the current year’s budget.
