Turkey time … times two

Constance Nolan and Shirley Bennett come to the Skowhegan Community Center five days a week to walk indoors together. So it was an easy choice, they said, to attend the center’s first, and free, Thanksgiving dinner.

COMMENTARY: Conservative makes a case for individual insurance mandate

The Supreme Court will rule next year on the constitutionality of the health-care reform passed in 2010. But constitutionality notwithstanding, Republican opposition to the new law has been vigorous and consistent. In recent GOP presidential debates the candidates have been unanimous in condemning it, in particular objecting to the requirement that almost all Americans obtain health insurance or pay a penalty.

Republican Christmas party in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN — Somerset County Republican Committee members will host its second annual Christmas party at 6 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at the Skowhegan Community Center. Area Republicans are invited to bring a potluck dish to share.
