BELGRADE — Ryan C. McCarthy of Belgrade was recently promoted to sergeant E-5 in the U.S. Army. He successfully completed the Warrior Leadership Course for newly promoted sergeants at Ft. Drum, N.Y. McCarthy is a combat engineer and was assigned to the 7th Engineer battalion of the 10th Mountain Division and stationed in Fort Drum, N.Y. Since enlisting, he served a one-year combat deployment in Iraq and is scheduled for a one-year deployment to Afghanistan this month.
