RSU 2 voters overwhelmingly pass $27.9 million budget

Voters in Hallowell, Farmingdale, Monmouth, Richmond and Dresden passed the increase in a 2,631-872 vote, according to unofficial results.

The spending package for the coming year is $3,653,899, about $154,000 more than last year.

More than $560,000 in cuts were made in the spending package that is 2.56 percent higher than the current year’s budget.

The budget, which includes money for a new school resource officer, was opposed by some Litchfield officials.

Jennifer Dumond was elected to the school board and 6 of 7 charter changes were approved in Tuesday’s election.

Majority votes in Oakland and Sidney favor passage while vote tallies in Rome, China and Belgrade have yet to be received.

Voters approved the budget by a 2-1 margin.

The bond covers the closing of Winslow Junior High School and renovating the high school and elementary school to make room for displaced students.

The town of Cornville has yet to report returns over the budget that us up 2.56 percent over last year’s.
