The Justice Department requested permission to show more of the affidavit after lawyers for Trump revealed the existence of a subpoena that sought surveillance footage recorded inside Mar-a-Lago.

The Justice Department proposed two retired judges for the role. Trump’s team proposed a retired judge and a lawyer.

Law enforcement officials said they would suffer ‘irreparable harm’ if U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon’s directive remained in place.

The decision came despite the objections of the Justice Department, which said an outside legal expert was not necessary in part because officials had already completed their review of potentially privileged documents.
