Woman dies in Pittsfield fire

Resident found dead after fire extinguished at Cardinal Street home.

Firefighters from several departments and the Maine Forest Service respond to a fire Tuesday on Overlook Drive.

The suspected cause was a generator running inside the garage, according to Cornville’s fire chief.

The fire started in a garage but was knocked down before fully reaching the house, which was once Rowell’s General Store.

Windy, dry conditions in Maine have made the risk of fire increase.

The Maine Forest Service said the wildfire risk is high across the southern half of the state and moderate across the northern counties.

The fire was reported on Warren Hill Road in Palmyra at 9:58 a.m., according to Hartland fire Chief Glen Carmichael, who responded to the scene.

State fire investigators said they determined Jason Woods, 47, intentionally set the fire in a parking lot early Thursday morning.

Frank and Jennifer Horton came home just before 7 p.m. and discovered their farmhouse and attached barn were on fire.

The homeowner died of injuries from the Halloween fire on Waterville Road.
