1 dead in Skowhegan fire, officials say

A Maine Forest Service helicopter assisted by dropping loads of water onto the fire Monday morning.

One survivor was flown to Maine Medical Center with serious burn injuries.

No one was injured in the accidetnal blaze, which began Monday shortly before 7 p.m.

The blaze, which officials said was sparked when the woman used lighter fluid on a fireplace, occurred Thursday night on Washington Street.

The homeowners were away at the time of the incident.

Crews were fighting flames on Myrtle Street for more than 4 hours Friday, Manchester fire Chief Steve Caswell said.
