Maine will resettle only 50 refugees this year, all white South Africans

Reductions by the Trump administration continue after Maine was allowed to resettle about half of the 950 refugees allocated last year.

About 35 refugees from Somalia, Syria and other countries are to be relocated from southern Maine to the Good Will-Hinckley campus.

The state’s 3 resettlement agencies expect to receive a total of 840 refugees from various countries in the next 12 months.

In total, 60 mattresses were delivered to asylum-seekers in need Friday.
