Michelle Sweet, 53, died Thursday at Maine Medical Center in Portland after having been seriously injured in the fire on Hilltop Drive in Skowhegan on Dec. 5, authorities said.

Skowhegan police officer Timothy Williams was first on the scene Dec. 2 of a burning mobile home, where he pulled out Andrea Curtis and her 4-year-old son, Tyler Curtis-Benson.

Brian Curtis said his daughter, Andrea Curtis, is making “baby steps towards recovery” at Maine Medical Center in Portland, while 4-year-old Tyler Curtis-Benson is in stable condition at the Shriner’s hospital in Boston.

The Skowhegan Police Department is dealing with a fake posting on its Facebook page that falsely claimed there had been a triple murder in town.

Michelle Sweet was smoking a cigarette while using oxygen, causing a fire that severely injured her Sunday afternoon and destroyed a mobile home, fire officials said.
