Skowhegan tax rate decreases but may not result in lower tax bills
The Skowhegan Board of Assessors on Thursday lowered the tax rate from $18.35 to $17.48 per $1,000 worth of valuation, but that doesn't necessarily mean tax bills will be lower because property values have increased, according to Town Manager Christine Almand.

Photos: Skowhegan Drive-In likely closing its doors for good
The Labor Day weekend showings could be the last time the screen lights up at the drive-in movie theater. A recording at the drive-in's main number says "it may be the Skowhegan Drive-In Theater's last." The local spot coined as "Skowhegan's Only Drive-In Theatre" had been open since 1954, with current owner Don Brown it's fourth owner over 6 decades.
