The chairman of the board of selectmen said he’s worried the estimated increase in the tax rate from the current $15.35 to about $16.30 may be too high.

The budget proposed by the Selectboard is about $110,000 higher than what was approved last year and probably would increase taxes by 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.

Voters at Wednesday’s meeting will be asked to allow alcohol sales for on-site consumption and to borrow $300,000 for road repairs.

The Town Meeting will be held Tuesday evening at Messalonskee High School.

Patricia A. Martin replaces Sherry L. Gilbert on the Budget Committee, and all other incumbents were re-elected.

Berkley Linscott, who owns a feed store on Route 17, beat Donald Grinnell, who has been on the board since 2002, in Friday’s election.
