Amid months of turmoil in the town office, councilors were set to discuss giving the town manager a higher payout if she was fired by the town. Instead, councilors voted to revoke their ability to fire her without cause altogether.

Codie Rice, 29, and Brian LeClair, 46, were arrested while cutting copper out of the abandoned building’s classrooms, bathrooms and hallways, police say.

Councilor Fran Hudson moved to postpone selecting the committee’s members until after the November election because two residents who filed paperwork to join are running for council seats.

The apartment complex was without electricity and part of Benton Avenue was closed following the incident.
