The town approved the $10.98 million school spending plan in a 465-210 vote, after rejecting a proposal that was about $200,000 higher in June.

The latest proposal comes after several contentious weeks, in which members of the Town Council have pushed for a series of administrative cuts to the School Department.

School officials have opposed the latest spending plan, which proposes to cut the superintendent’s hours.

At least two council members said Thursday they were confused by last-minute cuts in spending that were not part of the original proposal.

After a spending plan was rejected by voters, the School Department will present a reduced proposal to the Town Council on Wednesday night.
