AUGUSTA — An Oakland man pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges related to breaking into the Flying Pond Variety store in Mount Vernon in February, grabbing the cash register drawer and fleeing in a car he had stolen hours earlier in Waterville.

Douglas William Hanson, 39, was sentenced to five years in jail, with all but nine months suspended and two years of probation, on a number of offenses, including those Feb. 7 offenses.

He also pleaded guilty to theft by unauthorized use of property, operating while his license was suspended or revoked and violating conditions of release that occurred March 10 in Oakland.

He was fined $500 and ordered to pay $1,075 restitution.

A number of other people were sentenced Tuesday and Wednesday in separate hearings in Kennebec County Superior Court:

• Matthew E. Allen, 36, who has addresses in Farmington and Vienna, operating after revocation Dec. 14, 2013, in Mount Vernon; 90-day jail sentence, $750 fine.

• Heath E. Arsenault, 39, of Litchfield, failing to make oral or written accident report July 1 in Monmouth; $200 fine.

• Ivona Cookson, 37, of Gardiner, failure to stop, remain, render aid, personal injury accident May 5 in Gardiner; 96-hour jail sentence.

• Jessica E. Donahue, 25, of Monmouth, operating under the influence March 3 in Monmouth; 96-hour jail sentence (to be served in the alternative sentencing program), $500 fine, 150-day license suspension.

• Michael Derosby, 42, of Waterville, criminal mischief April 6 in Waterville; $100 fine.

• Elwin G. Gifford, 40, of Augusta, operating while license suspended or revoked June 11 in Waterville, $500 fine.

• Kory McPhail, 24, of Clinton, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer Nov. 18, 2013, in Winslow; 45-day jail sentence.

• Martin H. Murphy, 47, of Oakland, operating under the influence June 15 in Oakland; $500 fine, 150-day license suspension.

• Krysta L. Roberts, 21, of New Gloucester and formerly of Augusta, theft by receiving stolen property and violating conditions of release June 9 in Winthrop; $500 fine.

• Christopher A. Rush, 41, of Waterville, operating under the influence June 2 in Waterville; 10-day jail sentence, $700 fine, three-year license and registration suspension.

• Jordan E. Waterman, 23, of Augusta, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, bodily injury April 12 in Augusta; 60-day jail sentence concurrent to another sentence.

• Aaron M. Williams, 42, of Augusta, operating while license suspended or revoked June 4 in Augusta; $750 fine.
