AUGUSTA — A Winthrop woman has been charged after crashing her car with her child inside Thursday on State Street.

Sara Halsey, 25, was arrested after the crash on charges of possession of a scheduled drug and endangering the welfare of a child, said Augusta Police Sgt. Christian Behr.

The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. when Halsey pulled out of the parking lot behind Lithgow Library and drove her car across State Street into a concrete barricade on the edge of the former YMCA lot, Behr said. Halsey’s 3-year-old child was in the car at the time.

Nobody was injured during the crash, but Halsey was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center for what Behr described as a medical issue.

Police contacted the state Department of Health and Human Services to investigate.

Traffic continued to flow in both directions on State Street throughout the incident.
