A Lincoln County woman was injured badly Tuesday morning during a four-car pileup on Route 17 in Windsor.

Andrea Severson, 49, of Waldoboro, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with life-threatening injuries, Kennebec County interim Sheriff Ryan Reardon said in a news release.

The remaining drivers were treated for minor injuries at the scene but were not taken to the hospital.

All of the drivers were alone in their vehicles.

The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. as Alexander Achorn, 18, of Nobleboro, was driving east on Route 17. Achorn’s truck veered into the westbound lane near the Route 32 intersection and collided nearly head-on with a 2008 Hyundai being driven by 25-year-old Justin Stewart, of Appleton, Reardon said. The pickup caromed off the Hyundai and hit two other vehicles, including a 2012 Honda Ridgeline being driven by 36-year-old Joel Perry, of Warren, and Severson’s 2012 Toyota Corolla.

Route 17 was closed for about 45 minutes as rescuers tended to the injured and the cars were removed.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The National Weather Service had issued an advisory warning about icy roads in the area. Reardon said there was some ice in the area, but it is too soon to know if that contributed to the crash.
