Regional School Unit 9 will hold a districtwide budget meeting Wednesday, June 1, on its proposed $32.97 million 2016-2017 budget.

The figure approved by those in attendance at the meeting then will go to a referendum June 14 for final approval in each of the district’s 10 towns.

The annual budget meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mt. Blue High School Campus in Farmington. At that meeting, district residents will have the opportunity to approve or reject each article of the budget.

The RSU 9 board of directors approved the proposed $32,973,180 budget at a meeting in April. The figure represents a 2.9 percent increase over the current budget.

RSU 9 includes Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Starks, Temple, Vienna, Weld, and Wilton

This year, the district conducted its budget process differently from in years past. All 15 members of the board of directors were part of the budget review, rather than just a few members on an ad-hoc budget committee.

Additionally, the district held three informational meetings during the budget process to gather public input and answer residents’ questions about the budget process. Meetings were held in April in Farmington, New Sharon and Wilton. In the past, Superintendent Tom Ward attended selectmen meetings in the district’s towns as the district’s community outreach during the budget process.
