ORONO — The University of Maine says U.S. Sen. Susan Collins will address graduates at the 2011 commencement ceremonies on May 7.

UMaine’s 209th morning and afternoon ceremonies are expected to draw 14,000 guests to Harold Alfond Arena in Orono.

Collins, a Maine Republican, will deliver the commencement address at both ceremonies

Honorary doctorates are to be presented to Collins and to Peter Vigue, chair and CEO of Cianbro (CHIN’-broh) Inc., a Pittsfield-based construction company.

Kristopher Robert Cooper, a biology major and Honors College student from Winthrop, is the Class of 2011 valedictorian. Rachel Ann Ventrella of Fayette, an elementary education major, is the class salutatorian.
