PITTSFIELD — The Pittsfield Public Library will host two Modular Origami Workshops Thursday.

Participants can learn the basics of modular origami, learn folding and underlying concepts, and make connections to crystals, architecture, biology and chemistry. Eva Szillery, director of the Maine Junior Engineering Technical Society, and the Maine State director of the American Mathematics Competitions, as well as the founder of the Maine Origami Society, will lead the workshops.

The first session is for students in grades 3-5 from 10 a.m. to noon, the second session is for students in grades 6-9 from 1 to 3 p.m. Older students and adults may attend either session.

No previous folding experience is necessary. This program is part of the Cornerstones of Science 10-year anniversary celebration.
