Kade Smith, 14, background, celebrates on Friday afternoon as his friend Philip Owen, 14, holds up a hackysack ball he salvaged from his mother’s car, which caught fire on Interstate 95 in Burnham, according to Clinton Police Chief Craig Johnson.

Tammy Jackson, 47, of Edgecomb was driving her two sons, Philip and Alex Owen, and Kade Smith to Rockwood for a camping trip when the car’s front end burst into flames on I-95.

No one was hurt in the fire, and after salvaging most of their camping equipment, the group decided to continue on their way to Rockwood.
