LEWISTON — A Maine couple is home from the World Wife Carrying championships in Finland where they came in fifth.
Dave and Lacey Castro of Alfred are now gearing up for a wife carrying competition in the United Kingdom and this fall’s North American championship, to be held at Sunday River in Newry.
In 2009, the Castros won the North American Wife Carrying Championships at Sunday River, which gave them the opportunity to compete in Finland where more than 6,500 fans cheered on 46 teams from around the globe.
Lacey Castro tells the Sun Journal of Lewiston that she and her husband are looking forward to a new challenge.
In wife carrying, the man must carry the woman just over an eighth of a mile over and through a series of obstacles.
