AUGUSTA — An Augusta man suffered minor injuries early Wednesday morning when he was apparently stabbed after intervening in a dispute between a couple.

Augusta Police were called to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after the victim went to the emergency room for treatment, said Augusta Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw.

The victim, who was not identified, suffered a minor cut to the abdomen, Shaw said.

The man told police he was walking on Northern Avenue when he saw a man and a woman arguing. The victim said he intervened because the man was “being mean” to the woman, Shaw said.

“That’s when the male took out a knife and cut him,” Shaw said.

The incident remains under investigation, but there were no suspects Wednesday afternoon, Shaw said.

“We don’t have a good enough description (of the suspect) or witnesses to say who it was,” Shaw said.
